Mental Illness's Effect on Breast Cancer Survival

Early detection is crucial

Psychiatric and other healthcare providers have a responsibility to work together to ensure that people with severe mental illness are getting the screening and healthcare services that they deserve. Patients need to be repeatedly educated about why annual check-ups are important, and where they can go to get them. They should also be informed that early detection is key, because survivorship is much higher when breast cancer is diagnosed early on.
