New MRI Contrast Agent Can Tell Aggressive Breast Cancer From Other Types

This protein is correlated to breast cancer severity

The ZD2 attaches to and carries the fullerene ball. This particular peptide targets and attaches to a protein that is associated with breast cancer: extradomain-B fibronectin, also called EDB-FN.

EDB-FN is often found in the area around cancer cells, especially in the more aggressive types of breast cancer. A higher amount of EDB-FN is associated with more invasive tumors, cancer that is more likely to metastasize, and cancer that is resistant to drugs.

Generally, the more aggressive the breast cancer, the more EDB-FN is found.
