Ovarian Cancer News: Other uses of talc

Other uses of talc

Talc is used in roofing material, plastics, rubber, ceramics, paints, and crayons.

Also for cosmetics, foot powders, first aid powders for superficial wounds, and antiperspirants. As a light coating on gum and candy, it prevents them from sticking to the wrapper. It’s also added to soaps and baby powder.

Additionally, it works commercially to polish grains of white rice, and is added to olive oil to improve its clarity and quality.

Medically it is used to coat pills, in medication to treat buildup of chest fluid in people who have lung cancer, and to treat fluid buildup in the lungs for those with cystic fibrosis.

In massive form, talc is called soapstone and lends itself well to tiles and carving.
