Study Shows Physical Activity Eases Chemo Brain for Breast Cancer Survivors

How much exercise?

Physical activity is associated with improved cancer survival rates, particularly for breast cancer. It is recommended to perform 150 minutes of exercise on a weekly basis. If you are recovering from breast cancer treatment or experiencing troubling side effects, it may be difficult but strive to get moving. Consider exercising 20-30 minutes as you see fit during the day for a total of 3 or more hours per week. Any activity is far better than no activity at all and brisk walking is the ideal way to start. Other active approaches to consider include the following:

  • Biking instead of driving
  • Standing more instead of sitting
  • Taking your pet for a walk
  • Walking up and down the stairs
  • Using a stationary bike
  • Hiking
  • Dancing
  • Swimming or doing water aerobics
  • Doing exercises such as Pilates or yoga
  • Playing tennis or golf
  • Lifting weights
  • Doing some gardening
  • Performing household work
