A woman's risk of osteoporosis is heightened even further
One major concern among women with RA is bone health. “Women in menopause are at higher risk of developing osteoporosis,” said Erin Bauer, rheumatologist at Virginia Mason Federal Way Medical Center in Seattle. Osteoporosis affects 35% of postmenopausal Caucasian women and it increases the risk of fractures. Since women with RA already face a risk of bone loss due to their chronic inflammation, their risk of developing osteoporosis during menopause is heightened even further.
