College Student with Breast Cancer Didn't Miss a Single Class

Double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery

Finally, in December, Colleen completed 4 months of chemotherapy. She then had to go through a double mastectomy and had both of her breasts removed. The experience was much more emotional for her than she would have expected. She then had reconstructive surgery a few months after that.

Colleen says she was surprised with how emotional she felt during her mastectomy. During her treatments, Colleen had always felt an urge to get rid of the part of her body that had cancer in it. However, when it came time to get the surgery, she started to feel resentful. It was hard seeing a piece of her, a part of the body considered to be womanly and beautiful, removed forever.
