Recommended sugar intake

The AHA suggests that the intake of added sugars for men should be limited to 38 grams (9 teaspoons) each day and for women should be 25 grams (6 teaspoons) each day. Children should be limited to anywhere from 12 to 25 grams (3 to 6 teaspoons) each day depending on their caloric needs and age. The WHO states that adults should never consume more than 10 percent of their calories in the form of both added sugars and natural sugars. Added sugars are defined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) as any syrups or sugars that are added into drinks or food as they are prepared or processed.
