New Research: Using Mathematics to Treat Ovarian Cancer

The joining of mathematics and biology

The joining of mathematics and biology

While mathematics and biology may not seem to be similar, both are quantitative fields of study used to determine the relationship between one thing and another. In the Alber-Stark study, the team has documented, both in biological and mathematical terms, how a certain antibody "disables" a protein involved in the process of metastasis in ovarian cancer.

In the growing wave of utilizing math terminology and techniques to explain collected scientific data and to map out predictions, many disciplines are merging with mathematicians to complement their interpretations. In fact, “mathematics has been referred to as ‘the new microscope’ in biology”.
