Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Ignacio L. Gallardo, who serves patients in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

A board-certified cardiologist, Dr. Gallardo is affiliated with Eastern Carolina Cardiovascular in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

Eastern Carolina Cardiovascular believe their patients deserve access to the latest modern technological advances in preventing, detecting, and treating heart disease and related illnesses. Their goal is to afford the advantages of “big city” technology to the “hearts” of their community. Graduating with his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in 1982, Dr. Gallardo went on to complete his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the VA Caribbean Health System in 1985 and 1987, respectively. He completed two additional fellowships in clinical cardiac electrophysiology at the Georgetown University Medical Center in 1994, and at the Illinois Masonic Medical Center in 1998.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in cardiovascular disease, clinical cardiac electrophysiology, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Maintaining fellowship status, he is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), and is a Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS).

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
