Prior to joining New York Oncology Hematology, she was an attending physician at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a Professor of Medicine at the Joan and Sanford Weill Medical College of Cornell University. To begin her career, Dr. Theodoulou earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Fordham College at Lincoln Center. From there, she attended the University of Buffalo and earned her medical degree in 1988. Following her graduation, she attended North Shore University Hospital and completed her internal medicine internship and residency at North Shore University Hospital – Cornell University Medical College in New York. Wanting to further her knowledge in the field, she attended Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and completed a second internal medicine residency and a medical oncology fellowship in 1994. Furthermore, Dr. Theodoulou is board-certified in medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and remains a professional member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Hellenic Medical Society. One of the main things she attributes her career success to is her fear of breast cancer, she decided to either look at it straight on or run from it which she has found to be very satisfying. Additionally, she has a passion for what she is doing.

Dr. Theodoulou is one of the most highly ranked doctors in the United States. She is a board-certified oncologist who practices at New York Oncology Hematology in Albany and Hudson, New York. 

New York Oncology Hematology (NYOH) is the leading provider of community-based cancer care and blood disorder services. With convenient locations in Albany, Amsterdam, Clifton Park, Hudson, and Troy, the team of 32 physicians and 350 cancer care specialists see more than 100,000 cancer visits a year. They pride themselves on working closely with each patient and family, creating a personalized treatment plan while providing information and support.

After earning her medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, she went on to complete her internship and residency in internal medicine at North Shore University Hospital Cornell University Medical College and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), followed by her fellowship in medical oncology with MSKCC. Dr. Theodoulou was an attending physician at MSKCC and a Professor of Medicine at the Joan and Sanford Weill Medical College of Cornell University, both located in New York City, for over two decades. Her husband’s retirement brought her to her second home in the Southern Berkshires where she joined NYOH. She is now seeing patients, teaching, mentoring, and developing a multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Program, and clinical trials program.   

Dr. Theodoulou exclusively sees men and women of all ages diagnosed with early or advanced breast cancer. She offers a multidisciplinary approach that foremost addresses evidence-based recommendations within the most current standards of care. The goals of treatment and the goals of the patient are never separated and are addressed with knowledge, compassion, and care. She is the Program Director for the Annual Breast Cancer Symposium in Albany, New York, where international and national leaders in the field of Breast Cancer share the advances in diagnosis and treatment with the regional communities. Dr. Theodoulou also moderates several community based educational programs for young patients diagnosed with breast cancer, allowing these patients to network and have access to information that will help guide them through the challenges faced with an early age diagnosis.

In order to stay up to date in her field, she remains a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Hellenic Medical Society. She is also on the Medical Advisory Board of the Sass Research Foundation. Additionally, Dr. Theodoulou lectures nationally and internationally.

Throughout her career, Dr. Theodoulou has received numerous awards and honors, including the Hally Yaccino Steiner Award from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the Greater New York City, the Outstanding Physician Award from the Sass Foundation for Medical Research, Clinical Excellence & Community Advocacy in Breast Cancer from the Brook Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, as well as the AXIOS Award from the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association Cancer Foundation. 

Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. An oncologist is a doctor who treats cancer and provides medical care for a person diagnosed with cancer. Their responsibilities include: coordinating treatment plans and prescribing various types of treatment, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy, treating patients with radiation therapy, as well as assisting patients with pain management. 

Attributing her success to her fear of breast cancer, Dr. Theodoulou decided that she could either tackle it straight on or run away from it. She has a passion for her work and has become recognized internationally for her breast cancer research.  

Dr. Theodoulou lives with her husband in the Southern Berkshires and New York City where they enjoy spending time with their daughters, grandchildren, and family and friends. They also love gardening and being with their dog Luigi.
