Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Ali Banaie, who serves patients in the State of California.

Specializing in advanced endoscopic interventions, Dr. Banaie is a board-certified gastroenterologist who has been in practice since 2004. He is affiliated with several hospitals and medical centers that are a part of Sharp HealthCare, including Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center (Chula Vista, California), Sharp Grossmont Hospital (La Mesa, California), Sharp Memorial Hospital (San Diego, California), and Sharp Community Medical Group (San Diego, California).

A 1998 graduate of St. George’s University School of Medicine, Dr. Banaie went on to complete his internship and residency at Saint Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey. This was followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. 

Among the doctor’s various achievements, he is board-certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system. Dr. Banaie is fluent in both English and Farsi.
