Dr. Risinger is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine, general orthopedics, advanced arthroscopic surgery, open shoulder and knee surgery, shoulder and knee reconstruction, as well as sports-related fractures. The foundation of his work is helping patients to keep up a high quality of life at every age through the sports and activities they love. 

Since 2011, he has been in practice with Hartford Orthopedic Surgeons with offices throughout the State of Connecticut, including Rocky Hill, Avon, Manchester, and Windham. “Our practice was established in 1976 and is affiliated with Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center. In addition, we were part of the medical team that established and currently oversees the Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute. Our entire medical and administrative staff is dedicated to delivering superior orthopedic care. We are committed to maintaining our outstanding reputation in Connecticut from both patients and referring physicians.” as stated on their website. 

Prior to his current endeavors, Dr. Risinger served as an assistant to team physicians for the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls from 2004 until 2005. He also served as an orthopedic surgeon in private practice at South County Orthopedics and Physical Therapy in Wakefield, Rhode Island from 2005 until 2011. Since 2016, he has served as the team physician at Rocky Hill High School in Connecticut. 

In regards to his educational background, he earned his medical degree from Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1999. He then went on to complete his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Vermont in Burlington, followed by his fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Licensed in Rhode Island, Illinois, and Connecticut, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
