As a leading New York-based gastroenterologist, Dr. Starpoli manages the spectrum of gastrointestinal disorders at his private practice, Greenwich Village Gastroenterology, with offices in New York City and Poughkeepsie. Whether for routine care such as colon cancer screening with colonoscopy or for the assessment and management of complex reflux disease, he is dedicated to delivering quality patient care.

With a focus on gastroesophageal reflux disease and obesity, he places stomach balloons for weight loss and performs endoscopic suturing for revising gastric bypass surgery and reducing stomach size (also known as sleeve gastroplasty). Using the latest technology, he combines “old-fashioned” medicine and “new” medicine. 

In addition to serving as an Clinical Instructor within the Department of Medicine at NYU Langone Health, he is affiliated with Lenox Hill Hospital-Northwell Health, Mt. Sinai - Beth Israel Medical Center, and NYU Langone Medical Center. 

Aided by his extensive experience, Dr. Starpoli is board-certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. Additionally, he is board-certified in obesity medicine by the American Board of Obesity Medicine, which serves the public and the field of obesity medicine by maintaining standards for assessment and credentialing physicians.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began in 1986 when he earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at Greenwich Hospital in 1989, followed by his fellowship in gastroenterology at Saint Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center in 1991.

As past President of the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (NYSGE), he participates in various educational and research activities. Named a New York Times Super Doctor, he is constantly adapting to new medical technologies and innovations, striving to offer the highest quality of state-of-the-art care.
