Get to know Dermatologist & Mohs Surgeon Dr. Jens Thiele, who serves patients in Murrieta and Oceanside, California.

Dr. Thiele is a leading dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon serving patients from San Diego and Riverside counties at Dermatology Specialists, Inc. He practices at the offices in Murrieta and Oceanside, California.

With offices in Carmel Valley, Oceanside, San Marcos, Fallbrook, Solana Beach, Murrieta, Menifee, and Temecula, the team of qualified experts at Dermatology Specialists, Inc. offer a full array of skincare treatment to help each patient achieve their individual skincare goals. Originally from Frankfurt, Germany, Dr. Thiele graduated summa cum laude from JW Goethe University. He completed his internship at the University of Chicago Hospital and received his residency in dermatology at Boston University and Tufts University, where he also served as Chief Resident. He then completed an additional one-year fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery (American College of Mohs Surgery, ACMS). He is currently the only ACMS fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon in the Temecula and Murrieta area.

In addition to his expertise in Mohs surgery, Dr. Thiele is an internationally renowned expert on oxidative stages and photocarcinogenesis. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications in scientific and medical journals and books, as well as has made conference contributions at numerous national and international meetings. 

Currently on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Cosmetic Science and The Open Dermatology Journal, the doctor is associated with several professional organizations and societies. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (serving as a member of the Task Force Clinical Research), a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery, a Fellow of the American Society for Dermatology Surgery, and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Furthermore, he is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology, a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.

Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body. Dermatology is a specialty with both medical and surgical aspects. A dermatologist is a specialist doctor who manages skin diseases and deals with both internal and external causes and some cosmetic concerns involving the skin. Dermatological duties include taking consultations, providing screening tests, and undertaking non-invasive surgical procedures.

Among his most notable achievements, Dr. Thiele has received numerous awards throughout his line of work, including Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), On-Time Doctor Award (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018), and Patients’ Choice Award (2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018). He has also been voted 2019 Top Doctor by San Diego Magazine – Physicians of Exceptional Excellence.

On a more personal note, he is married to a San Diego native and has one daughter and two sons. In his free time, he loves spending time with his family hiking or biking – with sunscreen reapplied every 2 hours, of course!
