In the early days of her academic career, Dr. Cantu graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. She attended medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where she received her medical degree. She then went on to complete a residency in general psychiatry and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She served as co-chief resident during her fellowship training.
Following her training, she attained board certification in general psychiatry & child and adolescent psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.
In good standing with a number of professional organizations, Dr. Cantu is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Psychiatric Association, the Bexar County Psychiatric Society, the Bexar County Medical Society, the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, the Clinical TMS Society, and the Texas Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She is also affiliated with Hill Country Memorial Hospital.
