Get to know Orthodontist Dr. Derek M. Busciglio, who serves patients throughout the State of Florida.

A top professional in the field of orthodontics, Dr. Busciglio sees patients at his private practice – Busciglio Smiles – with offices in Brandon, Plant City, and Lithia, Florida. Growing up in Brandon, he takes great pride in creating gorgeous smiles for his friends and neighbors in the community.

His practice has been beautifying smiles in the local community for nearly 50 years, and it continues to grow and deliver orthodontic and pediatric dentistry care to the patients of Hillsborough County and beyond.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in orthodontics began after he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida. He completed his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree from the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, and completed a post graduate residency in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics at the same educational venue.

An authority in his field, he is board-certified in orthodontics by the American Board of Orthodontics, which is the highest honor an orthodontist can achieve. To become a board-certified orthodontist, candidates must pass a rigorous exam where several patients with initially difficult orthodontic treatment must be treated with exceptional outcomes and graded by other experienced and board-certified orthodontists.

Dedicated to his craft, Dr. Busciglio is constantly striving to stay abreast of the latest technology through continuing education. He is a Diamond+ Invisalign® provider, and gives lectures throughout the country teaching other orthodontists to provide above-and-beyond Invisalign® treatment. Teaching others while simultaneously learning from their experiences has been an invaluable experience, which has allowed him to provide the best care possible to each and every patient that walks through his doors.

Moreover, he is a proud member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, the West Coast Dental Association, and the Southern Association of Orthodontists.

Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of malpositioned teeth and jaws. Orthodontists are responsible for identifying problems with the positioning of a patient’s teeth and with their oral development. They utilize the most advanced procedures and equipment available to ensure that every patient achieves a healthy and beautiful smile.

Happily married, Dr. Busciglio and his wife, Katie, have a son named Rocco, two dogs, Gordan and Blondie, and three cats, Peanut, Lola, and Tella. When he is not at work, he enjoys going out for dinner with his wife, playing tennis, and playing with his son. He also enjoys supporting USF Bulls football, a team he played for back in 1997. His favorite superhero is Batman, and his favorite band is Coldplay.
