Get to know Foot and Ankle Surgeon Dr. David E. Waters, who serves patients throughout the State of Nebraska.

Al board certified Foot and Ankle Surgeon Dr. Waters started Platte River Foot and Ankle Surgeons because of his passion to provide comprehensive state of the art solutions to foot and ankle pain for his patients. Striving to be an integral part in the Hastings, Gretna and tri-city communities, he has a comprehensive approach to foot and ankle pain offering the least invasive conservative measures to treatment before proceeding with surgery when necessary. 

Additionally, he specializes in total ankle replacement as a means to helping those patients suffering from ankle pain from arthritis to maintain a high quality of life. He wants to keep the population up and active without foot and ankle pain.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Waters received his undergraduate degree in Microbiology from Weber State University, and graduated with his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine, where he served as president of his class and graduated as a member of Phi Delta Honor Society. 

Subsequently, he went to St. John Hospital and Medical Center, where he completed his residency in foot and ankle surgery, and served as the chief foot and ankle surgical resident. While there, he received advanced training in both non-surgical and surgical management of foot and ankle disorders and deformities including total ankle replacement. He also received training in diabetic foot care, wound care and limb salvage procedures.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery (FACFAS), the doctor is board-certified in foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ABFAS), which offers a comprehensive certification process in Foot, Rearfoot and ankle reconstructive surgery and limb salvage.

Prior to starting Platte River Foot and Ankle Surgeons, Dr. Waters worked with the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan. While there, he was involved in teaching and training the resident surgeons for three years. He was also involved in developing new minimally invasive techniques and three dimensional bunion correction.

A podiatrist, also known as a podiatric physician or a foot and ankle surgeon, is a medical professional devoted to the treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity. They can treat injuries and complications from ongoing health issues like diabetes.

Happily married, Dr. Waters and his wife, Valerie, reside in Hastings with their four wonderful children. They love the community feel it has and have integrated themselves into the community through scouting, sports and the arts. They enjoy spending time together as a family hiking, fishing, camping, swimming, boating and enjoying the community.
