Dr. McCoomer, a board-certified physiatrist, has improved the quality of life for thousands of patients. As the Owner of Pain & Rehabilitation Consultants in Madison, Alabama, he prides himself on keeping his practice up to date on the latest techniques and procedures that are available. Pain & Rehabilitation Consultants will provide a multidisciplinary approach to the management of chronic pain and other medical conditions which may benefit from the expertise of a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation. These services will include evaluation of patients from a musculoskeletal approach, with integration of pain management including, but not limited to, medications and more advanced interventional pain procedures. The goal is to obtain a good quality of life while maintaining functional health.
Recognized as an expert in his field, Dr. McCoomer tries to make the complexity of pain simple by establishing a diagnosis and identifying the pain generator and amplifier. He believes that pain should be treated and managed using many modalities. Medications, procedures, physical therapy, and psychiatric therapy are modalities he often employs together to return function and quality of life to those in pain. He also recognizes the resources and time required to diagnose, treat, and monitor patients in pain.
A 2001 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Dr. McCoomer spent his internship year in internal medicine. He then went on to complete his residency in physical medicine & rehabilitation at VCU Health, followed by his fellowship in pain medicine at the same educational venue. He also obtained a Master of Public Health degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
The doctor is dual board-certified in pain medicine and physical medicine & rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, which was established in 1947 as the certifying body for the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation under the American Board of Medical Specialties. He is also a member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the American Academy of Pain Medicine.
