Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Fazal Akbar Ali, who serves patients in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Having been practicing nephrology since 2009, Dr. Ali is an attending physician at Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City. He is Chair of the Medicine Department and Medical Director of both Inpatient Acute Dialysis Services and the Outpatient Dialysis Unit.

His areas of interest include chronic kidney disease, kidney stones, electro active imbalance, hypertension, and diabetes.

Educated in Pakistan, Dr. Ali graduated with his medical degree from Allama Iqbal Medical College in 1998. He then relocated to the United States, performing his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in nephrology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

With over two decades of experience, he is board-certified in both internal medicine and nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys: the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care when the time comes. 

Nominated by his peers, Dr. Ali is the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2015) and Top Physician Award (2022).
