He focuses on reducing the stigma associated with behavioural disorders by delivering evidence-based mental health services. Dr. Akintayo specializes in mood disorders, women’s issues relating to mental health, anxiety disorders, autism, ADHD, psychosis, depressive disorders, and bipolar disorders. 

Earlier in his career, Dr. Akintayo served as Associate Staff Psychiatrist for Adult, Child, and Adolescent Inpatient Services at Hall-brooke Behavioural Services in Westport, Connecticut, as well as Clinical Assistant Instructor in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Akintayo has treated inmates at the New York City Department of Correction on Rikers Island, and was an Associate Medical Director at Coastal Carolina Neuropsychiatric Center in Jacksonville, North Carolina. 

Dr. Akintayo earned his medical degree at the University of Lagos School of Medicine in Nigeria, in 1995. After relocating to the United States, he completed his psychiatry residency at Columbia University and Harlem Hospital Center in New York City (2004-2007). For his child and adolescent fellowship, Dr. Akintayo attended SUNY Downstate /Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York (2007-2009).

Dr. Akintayo became board-certified in General psychiatry  by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. (ABPN) is a nonprofit corporation that was founded in 1934 as a method of identifying the qualified specialists in psychiatry and neurology. The ABPN is one of 24 member boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).
