Get to know Optometrist Dr. Salena Pho, who serves patients in Cleveland, Texas.

Dr. Pho practices full scope of optometry from routine exam for glasses and contacts to management and treatment of ocular pathologies, co-management of cataract and refractive surgeries, as well as ocular foreign body removals, etc. at Berkeley Eye Center. She operates primarily out of the office in Cleveland, Texas.

In addition to her clinic, she dedicates her time to serving her temple and performing free eye exams to the monks, nuns, and non spoken English Vietnamese people in her community. 

In regards to her educational background, Dr. Pho graduated with her Doctor of Optometry degree from the College of Optometry at the University of Missouri–St. Louis in 2001 with honor of Dean’s list students and Sigma Beta Kappa honor society. 

Dedicated to clinical excellence, she is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry. Its mission is to advance the quality of eye care by promoting excellence through education, assessment, practice, and professionalism for the benefit of all patients. 

Prior to her move to Texas, Dr. Pho treated patients at a St. Louis medical eye clinic for 21 years where she managed glaucoma, AMD, and anterior segment diseases.

Optometry is a health care profession that involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities, as well as diagnosing and managing eye disease. Optometrists are healthcare professionals who provide primary eye care through comprehensive eye examinations to detect and treat various visual abnormalities and eye diseases. Being a regulated profession, an optometrist’s scope of practice may differ depending on the location. Thus, disorders or diseases detected outside the treatment scope of optometry (i.e. those requiring certain surgical interventions) are referred out to relevant medical professionals for proper care, more commonly to ophthalmologists who are physicians that specialize in the tertiary medical and surgical care of the eye. Optometrists typically work closely together with other eye care professionals, such as ophthalmologists and opticians, to deliver quality and efficient eye care to the general public.

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Pho enjoys writing calligraphy, crafting such as 3D origami, and 5D diamond painting. She is fluent in both English and Vietnamese.
