An excellent orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Mazzocca is the Director of the Orthopedic Bioskills Laboratory, and Director of Resident Education for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the UConn Musculoskeletal Institute. He also serves as a Professor within the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at UConn Health, and an active team physician for the UConn athletic teams. He specializes in the management of shoulder and elbow problems.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Mazzocca earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Denison University, and his Master of Science degree in Applied Physiology from Springfield College. He then went on to complete his medical education, internship, and residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at Rush University.

With an unwavering commitment to his specialty, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine by the the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Among his professional affiliations, Dr. Mazzocca is a Co-Founder of the New England Shoulder and Elbow Society, which is a regional society dedicated to educating and researching problems related to the shoulder and elbow. He is an active member of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Society, the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow, the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine, and the American Orthopedic Association.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
