Get to know Psychologist Dr. Helene Cohen, who serves the Boca Raton, Florida area at her private practice and at several local hospitals. In 2008, Dr. Cohen completed a twelve-year service at The Village South, the largest dual-diagnosis residential treatment mental health agency in South Florida. For twelve years, she provided The Village South with psychological full battery evaluations, and rendering recommendations to courts and agencies in both the public and private sectors. She has also acted professionally as a consultant for some of the most prestigious and well-respected public and private schools in the community. She has routinely lectured and provided professional trainings on a variety of topics. Dr. Cohen received her Bachelor’s degree at the State University of New York at Stony Brook where she graduated with honors and dual majors in psychology and philosophy. Then, she completed both Masters and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology and graduated Summa Cum Laude. While attending graduate school, she had the unique opportunity to work with inpatient psychiatric institutions as well as outpatient mental health agencies and private practices. To stay current in her field, Dr. Cohen maintains a professional membership with the prestigious American Psychological Association. She has completed over 4,000 hours in training Family Systems Therapy and is certified in Professional Crisis Management, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, and Critical Incident Stress Management. Psychology is the science of behavior and mind, including conscious and unconscious phenomena, as well as feeling and thought. It is an academic discipline of immense scope and diverse interests that, when taken together, seek an understanding of the emergent properties of brains, and all the variety of epiphenomena they manifest.
