Get to know Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr. Thomas P. Murphy, who serves patients in Ohio.

Dr. Murphy’s practice, Westlake Oral Surgery and Implant Center, is located in Westlake, Ohio. His current interests include advanced implant and bone grafting reconstruction through CAT scan and Cone Beam Technology, as well as Teeth in a Day*, and Teeth in an Hour*.

Having been in private practice since 1988, he previously held a teaching position at MetroHealth Medical Center and was the former section chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Fairview General Hospital.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri and raised in Canfield, Ohio, Dr. Murphy earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Loyola University in Illinois in 1983. He then completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at MetroHealth Medical Center, obtaining his license from the Ohio State Dental Board for General Anesthesia during this time.

A Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, he is fellow member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the International College of Dentists, and the American Society of Dental Anesthesia. 

In addition to being the past President of the Ohio Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Dr. Murphy belongs to the Great Lakes Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and Pierre Fauchard Academy (Honorary Dental Society). He has received the Award for Top Dentists several times throughout his career, among other awards.

Outside of the office, he enjoys skiing, hiking, golfing, and playing basketball. He is an avid cook who enjoys collecting fine wine and pairing them with gourmet foods. He also supports various local animal shelters, homeless shelters, and food banks.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery specializes in surgery of the face, mouth, and jaws. It is an internationally recognized surgical specialty. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are dental specialists who treat conditions, defects, injuries, and esthetic aspects of the mouth, teeth, jaws, and face. Their training involves a four-year graduate degree in dentistry and the completion of a minimum four-year hospital surgical residency program.
