Jaby K. Paul, DMD, was born and raised in New York. He went to South Orangetown School District and proceeded to a 7 year accelerated program at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his residency in General Dentistry at the Brooklyn Hospital Center in NYC. He has a passion for dentistry and his experience includes cosmetics, endodontics (root canal), oral surgery, and prosthodontics. In his spare time Dr. Paul enjoys watching movies, finding new places to eat, working with his hands, and exploring new technologies. He is happily married tohis wife and has a beautiful baby girl, Zoey. You will often find him talking about a wide range of topics, in particular current events.

  • How can I fix a dry socket at home?

    It will heal on its own, though it takes about 3-5 days. To expedite the healing, I'm not sure you can do it on yourself or without the assistance of someone trained. You have to scrape and irritate the site to induce bleeding for a clot to form so the area can start to heal. Usually you pack it with a sterile bandage coated with a healing ointment containing eugenol. Then you need to not smoke, drink extremely hot/cod, or irritate the area for at least a week.   • Can a tooth get infected under a bridge?

    Yes, a tooth can get infected under a bridge. The issues can be a cavity at the margin of the crown on the tooth, a nerve being infected, a tooth being fractured, and/or gum disease. Depending on what's going on it might be a root canal thru the bridge, an extraction, or removal of the bridge or part of the bridge. Jaby Paul READ MORE

  • Can I have more than one root canal in a day?

    Yes, it just takes time. Sometimes, we recommend multiple root canals in one appointment due to the location of the teeth, for restorative purposes, or if we are going to sedate a patient for treatment.   • Do dentures make your breath stink?

    Rarely does the denture itself produce or contain odors, but a mouth without teeth, if not cleaned off enough or not removing the denture daily, can result in odors and fungal infections. READ MORE

  • Can you leave Sensodyne on teeth overnight?

    Only in a retainer of some kind. I would suggest a very small amount so you don't swallow it. Also, make sure it is regular sensodyne, no whitening. Jaby Paul READ MORE

  • Are ceramic fillings toxic?

    Hello, There are a few types of ceramic restorative materials on the market, and as long as they are used appropriately they should not be toxic. I use them to seal root canals and line deeper fillings because of how biocompatible they are to the internal structure of teeth. I also use them as a full structured crown to cover compromised teeth. I'm not sure what other uses there are to be honest, but for me, both those methods are proven to be safe. Hopefully that helps.   • Abscess tooth?

    Unfortunately, no. The infection has to be diagnosed, and only through visual exam can that be completed. Also, there are different types of antibiotics that are prescribed based on type and extent of infection. Last, dental infections are caused usually by a tooth. So an antibiotic. READ MORE

  • How is the dentures process done?

    Complete dentures are traditionally a 6-stage process. The first appointment if there are no teeth present is taking an impression. The second appointment is taking a now accurate based on the 1st impression. The 3rd appt is trying in wax rims to set the bite for the dentures and the height of the teeth. 4th is trying in the dentures with teeth in to make sure it looks good and it doesn't feel too long along with testing speaking. The 5th appt is delivering the dentures. The 6th, and usually 2 more appts set at a week apart are adjustments as the dentures mold your gums to it. Usually, the 1-6 appts are 1-2 weeks apart based on the dentist's lab, dentist's availability, and patient's timeline. Also, now with digital scanning you may be able to skip the initial impression and go straight to a final impression. READ MORE

  • Does a root canal require anesthesia?

    You would need local anesthesia (an injection near the tooth/within5-10cm of the tooth) in the area to make the tooth calm enough to work on, but you would not require general anesthesia (to be put to sleep). There are many options to help calm a patient down during treatment including laughing gas (nitrous oxide), valium, operatory lighting, etc. READ MORE

  • Can my abscess go away on its own?

    It can develop a fistula which is a tract for the the pus within the abscess to exit the localized area. This can keep an abscess from becoming worse, but will eventually cause bigger issues like bone loss, systemic infection, etc. READ MORE

    Most likely recession along those teeth, meaning the gum has shrunk away from the teeth. Most obvious way of knowing this is if the teeth look longer. READ MORE
