About

          KEITH JAVERY, D.O.

Dr. Keith Javery received his Bachelors of Science in Biology at Truman State University. He then graduated from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. He then went on to complete his residency training at the University of Kentucky where he specialized in both anesthesiology and pain medicine. Once finished with his specialty training, he was asked to stay on as the Medical Director of the University of Kentucky’s Pain Management Center where he practiced for over three years.

In 1995, Dr. Javery was recruited to West Michigan to join a multi-physician pain management specialty group. He devoted 15 years of his career to help foster the development of the modern pain clinic.

In 2009, Dr. Javery left his previous practice in order to form the Javery Pain Institute. His primary goal was to rekindle that close personal relationship with both patient and referring physicians that is so necessary to treat chronic pain. It was Dr. Javery’s vision to recapture that personal touch that is frequently missing in today’s medical world.

Dr. Javery is a nationally recognized speaker in the field of interventional pain management and is often participating in national medical conferences serving as lecturing faculty, and co-organizer.

Dr. Javery currently serves as the CEO of the Michigan State chapter of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.

He holds multiple board certifications, including board certification from the American Board of Anesthesiology,  as well as board certification in Pain Medicine from the ABA, as well as the American Board of Pain Medicine.

Dr. Javery understands the importance of listening to the patients and understanding their individual needs as well as the challenges they face when dealing with chronic pain. He then develops a specific treatment program based upon that particular patient’s individual needs.

Dr. Javery has been practicing for over 20 years and is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology, the American Board of Anesthesiology Pain Management Certificate, and the American Board of Pain Medicine. He is also a Diplomate of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.

Dr. Javery brings with him the highest level of experience as well as certification and expertise in the treatment of chronic pain.

  • What can be done for a low pain tolerance?

“Low pain tolerance” is a difficult phenomenon to treat primarily because pain itself is a subjective experience based upon the brains PERCEPTION of either real or possible potential body/tissue damage. Pain itself is therefore comprised of actual or imagined incoming (afferent) signals from the body to the spinal cord and then the brain, where it is processed and then depending on a wide variety of existing and preexisting issues (genetics, preexisting and coexisting physiologic diseases), plus the person's own psychological status, ALL enters into the equation of how much “pain” is actually experienced. Thus, first and foremost, it is important to control and identify the things you can and do what you can about those. As many things are completely out of our control (picking our parents for instance! Lol). Step one is stop anything that will produce and worsen any hyperalgesia (frequent or chronic use of analgesics, especially narcotics), as these are well known to produce low pain tolerance due to hyperalgesia due to glial cell neuroinflammation. Also, obviously ruling out any physical disease states that might be causing pain in the first place. Mental conditioning, cognitive behavioral psychological therapies are known to increase pain tolerances. Anxiety reduction is very important. We all have stress. How we respond to stress is paramount. READ MORE
