Get to know Dentist Dr. Terry E. Grant, who serves patients in Garden City, New York.

Dr. Grant is a remarkable, internationally recognized authority in general, geriatric, and cosmetic dentistry. He has been creating beautiful and healthy smiles for baby boomers and beyond for over 25 years at Gentle Dental, LI in Garden City, New York.

There, he and his team offer state-of-the-art dentistry services such as root canal therapy, periodontal treatment, scaling and root planing, cosmetic dentistry, porcelain veneers, crowns, bridges, dental implants, dental bonding, Zoom teeth whitening, clear teeth aligners, dentures, oral cancer screenings, and sleep apnea treatment. They also travel to assisted living facilities and home-bound adults to provide bedside dental care. In doing so, they strive to ensure optimal dental health and the smile each patient deserves.

“As a caring dentist,  I am fully aware of how my experience has mattered to all my patients. My 20+ years of learning to understand what each person wants and needs is key to their overall satisfaction, and the size of their big smiles when they leave my office is the ultimate gauge of my hard work on their behalf.” as stated by Dr. Grant. He works very hard to provide his patients with a total oral health care atmosphere that is second to none and one that is as stress-free, pain-free, and financially worry-free as possible.

Throughout his line of work, he has served as a Chief Geriatric Dentist at major NYC and Long Island hospitals, medical centers, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities. He has also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the New York University College of Dentistry, and as a Geriatric Dentistry Expert for the U.S. Government Department of Health and Human Services, working to accommodate President Clinton with Health Care Reform in 1994.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Grant earned his Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology and Chemistry from Wagner College in Staten Island in 1979. Wanting to pursue a career in dentistry, he went on to obtain his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 1988. That same year, he also obtained a certificate in gerontology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and a year later, he completed his General Practice Residency at the Perry Point VA Medical Center.

Among his professional affiliations, he is a member of the American Dental Association, the National Dental Association, the American Society of Geriatric Dentistry, the American Society of Hospital Dentistry, the American College of Dentistry (Fellow), the American Society of Geriatric Dentistry (Fellow), and the International College of Dentistry (Fellow). He is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Special Care Dentistry (DABSCD).

Recognized as an expert in his field, Dr. Grant has written many grants and has received funds from many organizations and institutions for Advanced Dental Education Programs. He has lectured extensively for years, often serving as the keynote speaker at Advanced Dental Education hospitals and dental conventions across the United States and the world (most notably at the University of Hong Kong).

Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.

Among his numerous accolades, Dr. Grant is the recipient of Black History Month Award by the Brookdale Medical Center (2000), Influential Businessman of the Year by National Business Publications, Inc. (1998), Hospital and Community Service Award by Brookdale University Hospital (1998), Citation for Community Service by the New York State Governor, George Pataki (1997), Newcomer Businessman of the Year by Hempstead Chamber of Commerce (1997), North East Regional Representative for Geriatric Care by the American Society of Geriatric Dentistry (1996), Martin Luther King Community Service Award by Faith Baptist Church (1995), Citation from Community Service by Nassau County Executive (1994), Community Service Award by the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club (1994), and Research of Minority Aging Award by the National Institute of Health Summer Institute (1993).
