  • Big toes issues?

There is a procedure called a matricectomy were only the side of the toenail that is causing a problem is removed. By cutting out the matrix or root you could prevent the hangnail and still have most of your normal nail. READ MORE

  • Wrong orthotics?

If the orthotics were improperly fabricated and caused pain when you were walking, then removing them would alleviate the pain. I am unaware of orthoses causing any kind of permanent damage. They function by preventing excessive motion so muscles don't fatigue and nerves don't get over stretched. READ MORE

  • What medication can I take for ankle pain?

If you don't have any allergies to them, then an anti-inflammatory medication would be best for alleviating the pain from a sprain by decreasing the inflammation. Aleve, Advil or their generic versions would be a good place to start as far as over-the-counter medication goes. READ MORE

  • What are the best shoes recommended for people with flat feet?

Better than limiting yourself to a particular shoe style is to have custom made orthoses fabricated. They can be made to fit in most shoes. READ MORE

  • How are calluses treated?

The callus can be debrided by a podiatrist. Depending on the cause, there may be a surgical procedure that can prevent them from coming back. READ MORE

  • I have a recurrent problem of ingrown toenails. What should I do?

  • My grandfather's wound is not healing. What should we do?

There are a multitude of factors that go into healing. Blood supply, other medical problems, medication that one is on and any infection in the wound are the more common issue that delay healing. The antibiotics won't heal the would. They make sure there is no bacteria in there so the body can heal itself. I would recommend seeing a podiatrist who can evaluate the circulation in the foot and any other issues that may be slowing up the healing process. READ MORE

  • I am not able to flex my foot. Why?

The first diagnosis that comes to mind is arthritis. As we get older, our joints wear out and we don't have the flexibility we had as teenagers. Make an appointment with a podiatrist that can take x-rays and evaluate your foot. Sometimes, bones fuse together and this limits the motion too. A CAT scan will tell you if there is a cartilaginous bridge between bones limiting their motion. Start out simply by working your way up the testing ladder. If the more common ones don't give you enough information, then move to the next level until you have a definitive diagnosis. Arthritis symptoms show up about 5 years before there is radiographic evidence. READ MORE

  • Is foot amputation the only solution for gangrene?

    Unfortunately, yes. READ MORE

  • Will I need time off work after toenail removal?

    Probably not. READ MORE

  • What are the symptoms of heel bursitis?

You can have heel bursitis on the bottom of the heel or in the back. For the version on the bottom of the heel, pain is worse with increased activity. It is relieved with resting and anti-inflammatory medication. So, it doesn't hurt first thing in the morning when you get out of bed. Bursitis in the back of the heel is worse with shoes that rub on the top of the heel. This is relieved by wearing shoes that don't rub. Anti-inflammatory medication also relieves the pain. READ MORE
