  • What’s up with my ankle?

The only way to tell if it is broken, a chip or otherwise, is to have it x-rayed. Once that is done and you have a diagnosis, then you can appropriately treat it. READ MORE

  • How long does it take for foot fractures to heal?

The bone will remodel for close to a year after a foot fracture. So, it can take a year to fully heal. In general for a healthy individual, you can generally bear weight on a fractured foot after six weeks. READ MORE

  • Is going barefoot good for bunions?

Bunions hurt because of shoe gear pressure over the bunion that presses on the nerve underneath it. So from that perspective, going barefoot will alleviate the pain. However, it is the flattening out of the arch, that affects the pull of the muscles and creates the bunion. So from that perspective, going barefooted is not good for bunions. READ MORE

  • Do podiatrists treat ingrown toenails?

Yes they do treat ingrown toenails every day and several times a day. READ MORE

  • Is a walking boot better than a cast?

The benefit of a walking boot over a cast is that it can be taken off to bathe. The problem comes in that sometimes it doesn't get put back on after the bathing. Consequently, the surgery can be compromised. READ MORE

  • Can you walk after ankle surgery?

It all depends on what type of ankle surgery you are having. Ask your surgeon if you will be able to walk afterwards. READ MORE

  • Ingrown toenail?

Usually the bleeding is due to the nail having broken through the skin. When pressure is placed on that side of the nail, it will stimulate the bleeding again. The only way to stop the bleeding is to remove the section of the toenail that has broken through the skin. For just about everyone, that requires a visit to the doctor for local anesthesia READ MORE

  • I need help with my feet?

Looking at the picture, the red area seems to be forming a pattern across the top of your 3 bigger toes. Because of that pattern formation, I would rule out Athlete's foot. It appears that a strap from a sandal or shoe would go across those red areas. There are documented allergies to the dyes in shoes. From what I can see in the picture, that would be my diagnosis. READ MORE

  • What is the quickest way to heal a sprained ankle?

Even mildly sprained ankles don't heal in 2 days. There are different levels of sprained ankles. Based on the degree of the injury, the healing time can be predicted. A sprain is a tear of the ligaments or tendon. It's not uncommon for there to be some soreness for 6 weeks and the torn areas come back together. If you have to go on the hike, I would recommend wearing a brace so you don't do any further injury. READ MORE

  • What is the best toenail fungus treatment?

Fungus needs a dark moist environment to grow in. By wearing socks and shoes, you are feeding the fungus. To get the best results, you need to change the environment as well as use medication. So, Lamisil 250 mg for 12 weeks and moving to a climate where you can wear sandals the rest of you life will give you the best results. READ MORE

  • Is my foot broken?

The only way to tell if a bone is broken is with an x-ray. You may have a dislocated bone that is not broken. Again, an x-ray is needed to determine that. READ MORE

  • Is this just a bruise or something more on my toenail?

It looks like a bruise. But if it concerns you that much, a biopsy of the area will tell you definitively what it is. READ MORE

  • Can flat feet make your back hurt?

Yes they can. Functional orthoses that stop the excessive pronation frequently can alleviate the back pain. READ MORE

  • Injured toenail?

The easiest and least painful way is to trim the toenail back as far as you can. If it's not attached anymore, it's not serving any purpose. READ MORE

  • How to manage my foot pain?

It sounds like you pain is from the neuropathy you have listed. The doctor that ordered the Gabapentin may be able to increase the dosage. There is MLS laser therapy which I use in the office for patients who find that the medication either doesn't work or they don't like the side effects. READ MORE

  • What helps swollen ankles after working out?

First you have to know what is causing the problem. Are the valves in the veins weakening? Are the tendons being overworked and inflamed? Once you know that, your question can be answered. READ MORE

  • Starting of ingrown toenail?

If you can get cotton under the edge of the toenail so it grows out over the skin and doesn't dig in any further, that would be the easiest path. You can also round off the side that is digging in so that there isn't a point to actually pierce the skin. Creams wouldn't stop the nail from digging through the skin. READ MORE

  • Can chiropractors help with foot pain?

It depends on the cause of the pain. If it is a herniated or slipped disc, then yes they can. If it is due to a local nerve impingement, then I don't believe they can do anything for it. READ MORE
