Get to know Dentist Dr. James Mulshine, who serves the Chicago, Illinois area at his private practice and as a professor at Rush University. Currently, Dr. Mulshine serves as the Acting Dean of the Graduate College as well as the Vice President and Associate Provost of Research at Rush University in Chicago, Illinois. Previously, Dr. Mulshine spent twenty five years at the National Cancer Institute, where he was on the research faculty since 1983 serving at times as the head of the Intervention Section, Chair of the Lung Cancer and Chemoprevention Faculty, as member of the Technology Transfer Review subcommittee for the Director of the National Institutes of Health and Chair of the NCI Institutional Review Board. Dr. Mulshine received his BA from the College of the Holy Cross, and his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago’s Stritch School of Medicine. He received Internal Medicine training at the Cleveland Clinic and Oncology fellowship training at the National Cancer Institute. He has been board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine and medical oncology. Dr. Mulshine is on numerous editorial boards and sits on a number of national and international scientific and foundation advisory boards. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Optical Society of America, American Association of Cancer Research, the American College of Physician and International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, all of which allow him to stay current in his field. Due to his commitment to the field, Dr. Mulshine has received both national and international recognition including an appointment as Visiting Professor with the Tokyo Medical University from 2003-2006 and the receipt of the Joseph Cullen Award for lifetime scientific achievements in lung cancer prevention research from the IASLC in 2007.
