Get to know Neurosurgeon Dr. Mark K. Stevens, who serves patients in La Crosse, Wisconsin

Dr. Stevens is a leading neurosurgeon at Mayo Clinic Health System – Franciscan Healthcare. He specializes in the surgical treatment of a variety of neurological disorders, including spondylolisthesis, neck pain, back pain, pinched nerve, herniated disc, and spinal stenosis. Dr. Stevens is licensed to practice in the states of Wisconsin, , and Minnesota.

Dr. Stevens is a 1980-graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, New York. He then completed a transitional internship year at the National Naval  Medical Center at Bethesda  Maryland(1980-1981) and a residency in neurosurgery at Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education (1984 – 1990). 

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in neurosurgery through the American Board of Neurological Surgery. The broad aim of the American Board of Neurological Surgery is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery, and thereby to serve the cause of public health.

Neurosurgery or neurological surgery, known in common parlance as brain surgery, is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, central and peripheral nervous system, and cerebrovascular system.

A member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Dr. Stevens is also a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS). Over the years, he has been honored with multiple awards, including the Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2014, 2013, 2010) and the Patients’ Choice Award (2015, 2013) by vitals.com.
