Get to know Gastroenterologist Shailaja S. Behara, who serves patients in Shenandoah, Texas.

Having more than 20 years of experience in her field, Dr. Behara currently practices as a gastroenterologist at her private practice, Regional Digestive Consultants, P.A., in Shenandoah, Texas. 

Regional Digestive Consultants, P.A. is dedicated to providing excellent and compassionate care for a wide array of gastrointestinal, liver, biliary tract diseases, and pancreatic diseases with full access to the most cutting edge technology.

The doctor works together with the patient’s primary care physicians and specialists to provide cost-effective treatment tailored to meet their individual needs. On the subject of her academic career, Dr. Behara earned her medical degree from Andhra Medical College in Visakhapatnam, India in 1992. She then relocated to the United States to complete her residency in internal medicine at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, followed by her fellowship gastroenterology at Cook County Hospital. 

Before long, she became board-certified in gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, which is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Among her professional affiliations, Dr. Behara is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the Texas Medical Association, and the Harris County Medical Society. She is also a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association. 

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, intestines, and biliary system.
