Dr. William B Rosenblatt MD's Expert Contributions
If you are an appropriate candidate and have reasonable expectations, the risks are few and rare. You will have some swelling and black and blue and little bleeding, the pain in minimal. Go for a consultation and make sure the surgeon goes over all of them. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
Bad news, lasers do not remove stretch marks. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
Local anesthesia, back to work that day, sutures out about a week. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
Under eye bags can be easily removed. It is a lower lid belpharoplasty and there is often no scar as it is done through the inside of the lid. You need to be seen first to know if it is the proper procedure. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
There is no specific age --- I am a realist. At your examination, I would see what can be done and what you don't like, then, if there is agreement, you could be a candidate for a face lift. The next issue is cost; you need to be able to afford it. Sometimes young people are candidates and sometimes older ones are. I have done 35-year-olds and 85-year-olds and all in between. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
Our patients experience little to no pain. Usually, Tylenol is all that is needed along with iced compresses. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
The recovery is dependent on what you have done and who does it. At your consultation, speak to the surgeon. My patients may recover faster than someone else's. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
There is no good way to get rid of stretch marks. If they are between the belly button and pubis, then a tummy tuck will cut them out. Others ---you are stuck with. The derms may say that they have lasers to remove them -- but they don't work well. Also, creams are useless. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
The most common implant I use is a smooth walled silicone implant between 250 and 350 ccs. This is about a 1 1/2 size increase for most people. My patients pick the size that they want and I insert it. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
I assume you want your ears pinned back or an otoplasty. The recovery in my hands is a few days, less than a week. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
Usually at least 20 years -- sometimes you get more upper lid skin -- but if the doctor did a good job with the fat pockets, you may never need them done again. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
All of the studies done on smooth wall silicone or saline implants have shown that there are really no major health affects. You can have local issues, but they do not affect your overall health. Speak to your doctor about them. They are the safest way to increase your breast size. I will not do fat grafting as I think their problems can be much worse. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
We do facelifts under sedation only, so the anesthesia is a safe as it can be. All surgery has some degree of risks, but with this they are minor in nature. Make sure your doctor discusses all risks with you before. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
This is the worst surgery done today. The fat often goes away, you end up with a lumpy butt, and the incidence of death is about 1 in 3,000 procedures. READ MORE
There is no contraindication to nasal surgery in the summer. The risk of infection is no higher than doing it in the winter. Do the surgery when it is convenient for you. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
All surgery has risks, but it is as safe as possible. Have your surgery done by a board certified plastic surgeon in a certified operating facility. Also, talk to the doctor about the risks involved and have all of your questions answered. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
There are risks involved in all surgery, but when you go to a qualified board certified plastic surgeon who has done hundreds if not thousands of liposuction cases, the risks are very low. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
Breast augmentation surgery usually takes a little more than 1 hour. We commonly do this in our office surgery OR -- you spend about a morning with us and then go home to relax and recover. Back to work in a few days with minimal pain. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
Plastic includes reconstructive surgery, cosmetic surgery - it's to improve looks. They are pretty much interchangeable. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
An otoplasty should have nothing to do with hearing. It just pins back your fly away ears. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
In general, elective cosmetic surgery is safe, but you should make sure you are being treated by a board certified plastic surgeon and having surgery in a certified OR. Also, you need to make sure you have no underlying medical conditions that might predispose you to a complication. Your blood pressure should be normal and you should be healthy. Complications can occur, but most are minor and easily dealt with. At your consultation, talk to the doctor about your worries. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
They are not done at the same time. Have the baby and then 6 months later perhaps you could have the abdominoplasty. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
Liposuction is surgery -- all surgery has risks. If you are healthy, then the risks are extremely small -- speak to your doctor and go over all that is involved. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
If you have excess fat there, then liposuction, which is a safe procedure, could do what you want, but you need to be seen to know if it would be appropriate. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
We can image you to see how your breasts will look before and after augmentation. Will they look better? That is up to the viewer -- there is no classification of better. The surgery is usually quick and successful and patients are satisfied. We hope they will look the way you want, so that way they will look "better." READ MORE
Sounds like you are unhappy with the opinion. Why go to a doctor who disagrees with you? Get another opinion -- if you still can't get what you want, then you need to decide who is correct -- the doctor or you. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
The implants themselves feel like normal breast tissue. On occasion, patients can develop firm capsules around the implants where they may feel firmer than normal breast tissue. Our goal is to have breasts that feel soft and natural, but it all depends on how you heal. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
The goal of the surgery is a permanent improvement with an otoplasty. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
The only thing that works permanently is an augmentation. You should have stopped nursing for at least 3-6 months before getting the surgery. You can have a complimentary consultation any time. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
Surgery is surgery -- there is always some cutting and sewing -- there will be some pain. Medication is prescribed to take care of it, but different people experience the same pain differently. If you get a cold and go to bed for a week as opposed to working through it -- then you might experience more pain. Most of my patients take their medication and after a day or two are fine. I have never been told, "If I knew it would hurt so much, I would not have done the surgery." Most people are delighted with the results. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
If you go to an experienced rhinoplastic surgeon, they will evaluate your breathing at the same time they look at the cosmetic issues you have. If you have structural issues, a well trained surgeon will be able to fix them at the same time, so you breathing should not be an issue. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
There are no non-surgical ways to reduce breast size. Usually, surgery has a speedy recovery. Sorry your friend had issues, but that is not the rule. See a different doctor. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
You need a consult with a plastic surgeon to let them look at you and see what is needed. Usually tummy tucks and brachioplastys get rid of excess skin after massive weight loss. READ MORE
Upper lid surgery is a straight forward operation done to remove the upper lid hooding, It opens the eyes and improves your visual fields if you have a lot of hooding. It is done as an outpatient - usually takes less than 1 hour and you are fully healed within a week to 10 days. There is very little discomfort and some black and blue and bruising, but it is gone quickly. The result in my hands usually lasts 10 to 20 years. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
Your best bet is to ask your doctor. I leave splints on my patients for 5-7 days -- other doctors may do things differently. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
Recovery from augmentation surgery, the way we do it is rapid. Surgery on Thursday, back to work Monday. Our patients are happiest with smooth round implants under the breast. If your work requires a lot of arm motion, then recovery may take a little longer -- but otherwise there is little pain with the mecication we use and a quick recovery. We also image you on the Crisalix system to see what you will look like with implants. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
Your nose is made up of cartilage and bone with a skin covering. In order to change the external appearance, changes are made to the bone and cartilage. This is not an issue and is done all the time. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
A "mommy makeover" is usually a tummy tuck, and some sort of a breast lift. With or without implants. Sometimes some lipo is involved, too. Best to wait until you are done having children. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
If you go to a board certified plastic surgeon who operates in a certified operating room and they seem reasonable, then it should be a safe procedure. You also should be a normal weight with a BMI below 30 -- or closer to 25. Go for a consultation and get your answers. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
The most common side effect is joy. You love not having huge breasts to carry along and put pressure on your neck and back. Like all plastic surgery, complications can occur - but usually not often. Bleeding, or a collection of blood or an infection are the most common, but rarely happen. Speak to your doctor for a full explanation of all possibilities. READ MORE
Any time you have surgery on your breast, post-op, there may be less sensation in your breast and nipple. It is not a complication, it is just a normal post-op event. Sometimes the post-op sensation is the same as before and sometimes it is less. Nothing bad was done, just stretching the skin and tissues can give you less sensation. There is no way to guarantee there will not be a change. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
Liposuction is not designed to remove extra weight. It is really for excess lumps and bumps of fat. The American Society of Plastic Surgery only recommends a maximum removal of 5000 ml of fat when the procedure is done as an outpatient - this only amounts to at most 12 pounds. Unfortunately, the only way to lose weight is diet and exercise. READ MORE
It is, but you can gain weight and ruin the result. READ MORE
One of the problems in medicine today is that there is nothing that prevents a doctor from calling themselves anything they want. A real plastic surgeon has trained for at least 6 years in that speciality and usually has a board certification in Plastic Surgery. They do many different surgeries, both reconstructive and cosmetic. There are people who want to do cosmetic surgery since it can be lucrative as it is a cash business. READ MORE
Liposuction does neither - all it does is remove some fat. If you are grossly overweight, it is not the procedure for you. It is only safe to maximally remove 5L of fat at one sitting which is only about 12 pounds, so if you need more removed, then diet and exercise is the way to go. Also, if you have a lot of loose skin, it does not tighten the skin. People say that smart lipo, or vasar lipo tightens skin, but only minimally. If you need skin tightening, then perhaps a tummy tuck is needed. READ MORE
You really need a consultation to know what can be done. Some people just have bags or puffiness that needs to be surgically corrected. There are no good ointments or salves to make the bags go away. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
It's hard to give you an answer without seeing you. If you have saddle bags then the answer is yes, liposuction can help. But to know for sure you need to be seen in person. William B. Rosenblatt, M.D. READ MORE
My colleagues who have cool sclupt machines have reported that it is the best boon to their regular lipo business. It is sold as freezing the fat so it goes away, but it takes months for that to happen and is not as reliable as regular lipo. With regular lipo, the fat cells are removed and they will not come back again. READ MORE
Stretchmarks are a problem. Over time - usually 6 - 12 months after your delivery, they should fade, but they will not go away. Only the ones between your belly button and pubic region would be removed with a tummy tuck --- you will have to live with the others. Moisurizers help -- no treatment, including laser will totally remove them. Some people are lucky and dont get them, others are not so lucky. READ MORE
There are minimal side effects from Botox. Locally it causes paralysis of muscles but there are really no systemic effects. READ MORE
