George (Butch) Douthit, Jr., MD is an accomplished and admired orthopedic surgeon with subspecialities in hip replacement arthroplasty, knee replacement arthroplasty, knee osteoarthritis, hip osteoarthritis and osteoarthritis in the hands and wrist.

He serves patients at Northeast Orthopedic Sports Clinic and Physical Therapy. Northeast Ortho is a full-service orthopedic care provider serving Northeast Alabama since 1986. Dr. Douthit employs the latest advances in orthopedic care, including total joint replacement, hip and knee replacement, spine, and sports medicine. He is committed to giving his patients the best orthopedic care available using the latest technology.

Dr. Douthit earned his undergraduate degree from University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Birmingham, AL. He also performed his internship Orthopedic Residency at the University of Alabama Hospital, also in Birmingham. UAB Hospital is a 1,157 bed facility and a Level I trauma center hospital located in the Medical Center District on the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) campus.  

To stay current on policy updates, continuing education and to maintain his  top ranking in his profession, Dr. Douthit is a member of some of the most well known professional organizations in his field including: American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Fellow; American College of Surgeons, Fellow; Alabama Orthopaedic Society, Inc., American College of Sports Medicine, Etowah County Medical Society, Medical Association Alabama Southern Medical Association, Southern Orthopedic Association.

Dr. George J. Douthit, Jr. is affiliated with, and practices at, Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Riverview Regional Medical Center and Gadsden Surgery Center.

He has received numerous accolades and awards and has been recognized as a Top Doctor in the Alabama area and is on the Healthgrades Honor Roll. He has won the Patients' Choice Award every year since 2014 as well as the Compassionate Physician Award. He is also an ACS Fellow.
