Before embarking on her professional journey, she earned her medical degree from the University of Haiti in 1979. She completed her internship at United Hospitals of Newark, and her residency in neurology at Columbia University.

Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Neurologists are licensed medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles of patients.
