Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Frantz R. Lerebours, who serves patients in Miami, Florida.

Dr. Lerebours is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute.

Specializing in orthopedic trauma surgery and fracture surgery, his approach to patient care is to look at the entire patient. He notes that many patients with traumatic injuries are dealing with not only physical injuries, but emotional stress as well. He considers factors like their social situation and vocation when helping a patient rehabilitate from an injury.

With a background in sports medicine, Dr. Lerebours has expertise in treating both fractured bones and surrounding soft tissues. He joined Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute from Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he was an attending physician. During his time in Los Angeles, he provided sports medicine team coverage for the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Los Angeles Kings.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Lerebours graduated with his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine in 2009, after which he went on to perform his residency in orthopedic surgery at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital in 2014. This was followed by a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in 2015.

Three years later, in 2018, the doctor attained board certification in orthopedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

A first-generation Haitian American, Dr. Lerebours participates in medical mission trips to Haiti. He also serves on the Board of Advisors for Orthopaedic Relief Services International, and as a preceptor for the Nth Dimensions Summer Internship.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Dr. Lerebours has been honored with numerous awards, including the Southern California Super Doctors “Rising Stars” Award, the Ralph Lusskin Resident Teacher of the Year Award, the Charles H. Epps Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Surgery, the Dr. Wilbur Strickland Award for Excellence in Internal Medicine and the Dr. Merton B. Anderson Award for Excellence in Pathology. Additionally, he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and named executive chief resident during his residency at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital.

His research has been published in peer-reviewed publications, including Operative Techniques in Sports Medicine and the American Journal of Sports Medicine. He has also contributed to medical textbooks.

When he is not treating patients, Dr. Lerebours enjoys hiking, traveling, stand-up paddleboarding, and following global finance. He is fluent in English and Haitian Creole.
