Get to know Pediatric Gastroenterologist Dr. Vita L. Goei, who serves the population of Georgia. Dr. Vita L. Goei is a highly respected and experienced physician, having been in practice for over three decades. Her career in medicine began in 1986 when she graduated with her Medical Degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in New York. After medical school, Dr. Goei completed her residency with Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Goei is noted for her expertise in abdominal disorders, abdominal pain, constipation, crohn’s disease, diarrhea, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastrointestinal diseases, gastrointestinal malabsorption, pancreatitis, stomach diseases, and vomiting disorders.She currently practices with Augusta University Medical Clinic, and is affiliated with Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center and Georgia Regents University. Gastroenterology is the study of the normal function and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and liver. It involves a detailed understanding of the normal action (physiology) of the gastrointestinal organs including the movement of material through the stomach and intestine (motility), the digestion and absorption of nutrients into the body, removal of waste from the system, and the function of the liver as a digestive organ. It includes common and important conditions such as colon polyps and cancer, hepatitis, gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn), peptic ulcer disease, colitis, gallbladder and biliary tract disease, nutritional problems, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and pancreatitis. In essence, all normal activity and disease of the digestive organs are part of the study of Gastroenterology.
