  • Can dentures be put in permanently?

Hi, traditional dentures cannot be placed permanently. It is actually important to remove your dentures daily, clean them and give your mouth tissues some time to rest. If you are considering a permanent restoration that is not removable, implants would be required if you are missing all your natural teeth. READ MORE

  • Why do my teeth hurt when I bite down with dental implants?

Hi, I would advise you to return to your dentist ASAP for evaluation of this complaint. It may be a simple bite adjustment is needed or something else that could be easy or complicated to fix. It is very important not to remain in pain, though. READ MORE

  • Is flossing more important than brushing?

Hi, I believe both are very important to keeping your mouth healthy. Brushing cleans the top, inside and outside of teeth but not in between at all. Flossing cleans in between the teeth. If you wish to be technical, brushing cleans 60% of surfaces, flossing 40%. I would recommend trying to make both a habit! READ MORE

  • How can I remove tooth decay myself?

Hi, I do not believe you can remove decay yourself. You may prevent a small area of decay from getting worse if you brush, floss and avoid sugary foods but I recommend seeing your dentist to treat current tooth decay the sooner the better. Decay usually worsens over time making it more costly and time consuming to fix. READ MORE

  • Can you get two cavities on one tooth?

Hi, you may absolutely get more than 1 cavity in a tooth. Each tooth has multiple surfaces. Each surface may get a carious lesion which is a bacterial infection of the tooth. If those areas of decay do not touch we as dentists do not connect them but treat them separately in order to preserve healthy tooth structure. READ MORE

  • How can I prevent black triangle teeth?

As we age, patients often develop periodontal disease. Even in the early stages we see gums receding and black triangles develop. They can often be treated and camouflaged with bonded restorations. You should ask your dentist for options. READ MORE

  • Can gum infections go away on their own?

Hi, gum disease is a bacterial infection that usually requires treatment by a dentist. The earliest stage of this is gingivitis, which is inflammation of the gums. This stage is reversible with proper daily care of brushing and flossing. Later stages of periodontal disease include loss of bone that holds your teeth in your mouth. I would recommend an evaluation to determine what stage you may be in. A simple maintenance visit may be all you need and early treatment and diagnosis is less invasive and more economical. READ MORE

  • Should old amalgam fillings be replaced?

Hi, I would recommend only replacing old amalgam restorations if caries is suspected or if tooth is symptomatic. Amalgam, although used rarely by today's modern dentist, is a long lasting restoration. I would trust your dentist's judgement on when the appropriate time is to remove it. READ MORE

  • Can coffee make my teeth become blackish?

Hi, yes coffee or any other dark drinks like tea or red wine often stain teeth. If you would like to minimize this, try rinsing or brushing your teeth after you are done drinking. A dentist or dental hygienist may also be needed to remove older, tenacious stains. READ MORE

  • What is the procedure for replacing crowns?

Hi, crowns, like any other restoration in the mouth rarely lasts forever. They are replaced when necessary. Caries or tooth recession may be present causing discomfort. Severe pain may indicate the nerve and blood supply inside the tooth is infected. A visit to a dentist is definitely recommended. READ MORE

  • Is a crown necessary after a root canal?

Hi, often a crown is necessary following root canal therapy. Teeth become more likely to fracture, therefore the posterior teeth, which use a lot of force in chewing, should always have a crown made. Anterior teeth, if the loss of tooth structure is minimal, often can be restored with a simple filling. The biting force on anterior teeth is usually much less so not as critical to have crown. Always ask your dentist what treatment is best for your particular situation. READ MORE

  • How can I strengthen my gums?

Hi, daily flossing and use of a quality electric toothbrush like Oral B Braun or Sonicare will help strengthen and keep gums healthy. READ MORE

  • How do you stop a hole in your tooth from hurting?

Hi, only a qualified dentist can help you with a "hole" in your tooth. The cause may be a fracture or, more likely, a carious lesion. Caries is a bacterial infection of the tooth and early treatment is better and less expensive than trying to treat at home. READ MORE

  • How do I keep my teeth clean after a teeth cleaning?

Hi, dailing flossing and brushing after meals are the best ways to maintain a healthy, clean mouth following a dental cleaning. READ MORE

  • Can I use toothpaste after getting dental implants?

Yes, you should keep the area clean but be gentle. Also follow the dentist's instructions who placed the implant. READ MORE

  • Can a dentist fix half a tooth?

It is difficult to diagnose and answer without more information. A porcelain veneer covers half of a tooth and restores form, function and aesthetics. If half of the tooth is fractured or decayed, then it would need to be seen and radiographed to determine the appropriate restoration. READ MORE

  • What helps with pain after teeth cleaning?

I recommend brushing and flossing more often and thoroughly after a cleaning and use warm water. The first helps if the "gums" hurt following a cleaning and warm water helps if the teeth are sensitive. READ MORE

  • How do you clean your real teeth with veneers?

You would clean your teeth exactly the same way you did before veneers were placed. Daily brushing and flossing would be ideal. READ MORE

  • Does crown lengthening hurt?

The dentist performing the procedure should make sure you are completely numb and comfortable before and after the procedure. You should expect some soreness, though, for a couple of weeks during the healing process . Your dentist should be able to advise you on the best medications to alleviate that discomfort. READ MORE

  • What to do if your dental bridge falls out?

You should see your dentist as soon as possible to avoid the teeth moving, caries, or gum tissue overgrowing. Your bridge may be recemented if the teeth have not been damaged but the longer you wait, the more likely you will need more costly and time consuming fixes. READ MORE
