Born in South Carolina, Dr. Dolan and her family moved around a lot because her father was an Air Force officer (now retired). Following her training, she accepted a position in Culpeper, Virginia, where she practiced for 9 years. During that time, her family moved back to Bristow to be near their family in Nokesville and Manassas.
