Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Paul L. Berenbaum, who serves patients in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Berenbaum has been practicing gastroenterology and hepatology in the greater Philadelphia area for over twenty-five years. He tends to patients at his private practice in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.

Specializing in all diseases of the esophagus, stomach and colon, he is recognized as an expert in the field of gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, hepatitis B and C, as well as GI therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy.

Locally, he is affiliated with several hospitals and medical centers, including Holy Redeemer Hospital, Hahnemann University Hospital, Abington Hospital – Jefferson Health, and Einstein Medical Center Philadelphia.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Berenbaum completed his undergraduate education at Brooklyn College, City University of New York, an accelerated three-year program. He earned his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in 1972 and did his internship and residency at both Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Furthering his training, he completed his postdoctoral fellowship in gastroenterology at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Specializing in issues relating to the digestive tract, he is board-certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Maintaining professional competence, Dr. Berenbaum is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG), and a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (FAGA). 

Additionally, he is a member of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the Pennsylvania Society of Gastroenterology, the Delaware Valley Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.

Alongside his clinical role, Dr. Berenbaum serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at Drexel University College of Medicine. 

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.

A published author in the fields of gastroenterology and hepatology, Dr. Berenbaum has presented innumerable medical lectures and presentations and contributed to cutting-edge studies. 

On a more personal note, he speaks multiple languages, including English, French, Spanish, Hebrew, and Yiddish.
