Get to know Plastic Surgeon Dr. Eric Stelnicki, who serves patients throughout the State of Florida.
An exceptional plastic surgeon, Dr. Stelnicki is the Founder of the Atlantic Center of Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgery, serving patients throughout South Florida since 1998. He was also the Founder of the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Cleft and Craniofacial Center, which, under his guidance, is now Florida’s largest craniofacial center of excellence.
The Atlantic Center of Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgery is a center of excellence for pediatric plastic surgery, reconstructive plastic surgery, and cosmetic surgery. Their surgeons are classically trained plastic and oral maxillofacial surgeons from esteemed institutions. They are dedicated to providing cutting-edge care to restore form and function with beautiful, natural-looking results.
Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Stelnicki graduated with his medical degree from the University of Florida, and completed his residency in plastic surgery at the Washington University Barnes Teaching Hospital. There, he was trained by some of plastic surgery’s greatest leaders in the full scope of plastic surgery including pediatric plastic surgery, hand surgery, microvascular and nerve reconstructive surgery, body recontouring, breast augmentation and reconstruction, lipoplasty, Mommy Makeover surgery, rhinoplasty, and a host of other plastic surgery techniques.
He went on to complete his research fellowship in plastic surgery and fetal surgery training at the University of California, San Francisco, and is one of the few plastic surgeons in the country to receive a prestigious National Institutes of Health (NIH) R01 research grant for the study of scarless wound healing.
Subsequently, Dr. Stelnicki completed his fellowship in pediatric plastic surgery and craniofacial surgery at the prestigious New York University Institute of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at NYU Medical Center. He was taught by some of the greatest minds in plastic surgery who helped refine his skills and showed him the importance of continually working to advance the specialty of plastic surgery through research, resident training, community involvement, and charity.
His training at NYU helped him bring innovations such as nasoalveolar molding for the treatment of cleft lip and palate, new methods of mandible and maxillary distraction for reshaping jaw bones, endoscopic surgery for the treatment of craniosynostosis, virtual surgical planning for facial reconstruction, and many other advances to South Florida.
Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in plastic surgery and pediatric plastic surgery through the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). The mission of the ABPS is to promote safe, ethical, efficacious plastic surgery to the public by maintaining high standards for the education, examination, certification, and continuous certification of plastic surgeons as specialists and subspecialists.
Continuously advancing his efforts, Dr. Stelnicki is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Association of Plastic Surgeons, the American Association of Pediatric Plastic Surgeons, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the International Society of Craniofacial Surgery, the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, the Broward County Pediatric Society, and the Palm Beach Pediatric Society.
As for his academic appointments, he is currently a Professor of Plastic Surgery for the Cleveland Clinic Florida Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, where he heads resident research and pediatric plastic surgery. He also teaches at Nova Southeastern University and at Barry University.
Involved in many charity organizations throughout South Florida, Dr. Stelnicki is the Founder of CHARM (Children’s Health and Rehabilitative Missions), a 501(c)3 registered charity that raised money for children in need of complex medical care in South Florida and around the world who cannot afford to receive it. He also performs mission work each year around the world in places of severe need such as Guyana, Honduras, Africa, and China.
Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. It can be divided into two main categories – reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. A plastic surgeon’s primary responsibility is performing surgical and non-surgical procedures, and they use a variety of reparative and reconstructive techniques to get the job done.
On a personal note, Dr. Stelnicki is the proud father of five daughters and knows what it means to be a parent and a husband. He understands how anxiety-provoking it can be when a loved one has a problem that requires surgery. It is his goal to treat each patient like he would treat his own family, and he strives to do his best to improve the quality of life for each of his patients.
