Get to know Medical Oncologist Dr. Frederick G. Barr, who serves patients in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

A board-certified medical oncologist, Dr. Barr is affiliated with Regional Cancer Care Associates, operating out of the office in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

With a broad educational background, he earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He completed an internship in internal medicine at McGaw Medical Center and was trained in oncology at the medical oncology branch and laboratory of tumor cell biology at the National Cancer Institute.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in medical oncology and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

A Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Barr is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A medical professional who practices oncology is an oncologist. They have special training in diagnosing and treating cancer in adults using chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological therapy, and targeted therapy.

Named Top Doctor by Bethesda Magazine in 2019, Dr. Barr was also named a Top Doctor in the Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Washington-Baltimore areas in 2012 by Castle Connolly, and a Top Doctor by Consumers’ Checkbook Magazine in 1995.
