Get to know Family Practitioner, Dr. Khaja Ahmed, who currently serves patients in Decatur, Georgia. 

Dr. Ahmed is a board-certified family practitioner who practices at the South Dekalb Health Center at Oak Street Health in Decatur, Georgia. Furthermore, he is affiliated with Emory Decatur Hospital in Decatur, Georgia. Dr. Ahmed is licensed to practice in the state of Georgia. In addition to English, he speaks Bengali. 

“I have been a licensed physician in Michigan and Georgia since 1996. I have more than thirty years of practice experience – in treating acute illnesses, managing chronic conditions, screening cancers and preventing critical diseases. I am committed to my profession”, states Dr. Ahmed. 

Dr. Ahmed earned his medical degree in 1987 at Sylhet M. A. G. Osmani Medical College in Sylhet, Bangladesh. After relocating to the United States, he completed his internship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens (1993-1994), his family medicine residency at South Nassau Community Hospital (1994-1996), and his second family medicine residency at Meadville Medical Center (1999 – 2001). 

Subsequent to her training, Dr. Ahmed received board certification in family medicine through the American Board of Family medicine (ABFM). The American Board of Family Medicine is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Family medicine is a medical specialty within primary care that provides continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family across all ages, genders, diseases, and parts of the body. The specialist, who is usually a primary care physician, is named a family physician.

Dr. Ahmed received the Best Physician Award from Clarkston Community Clinic in Clarkston, Michigan in 1998, and the Best Medical Graduate Award from Sylhet Osmani Medical College in 1987. He maintains professional memberships with the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Diabetes Association, the American Medical Association, the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Physician Executives, the American Heart Association, and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
