Get to know Rheumatologist, Olga V. Szalasny, MD, who serves patients in Round Rock, Texas

Dr. Szalasny is a board-certified rheumatologist in practice with Baylor Scott & White Clinic in Round Rock, Texas. She is also affiliated with Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Round Rock and Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple in Texas.

Dr. Szalasny received her medical degree in 1992 from the Kharkiv National Medical University, formerly known as Kharkiv Medical Institute and previously Kharkiv State Medical University, in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Following her relocation to the United States, she completed the Johns Hopkins University/Sinai Hospital (JHU/Sinai) Residency Program in Internal Medicine (2006-2009), followed by a rheumatology fellowship at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC (2009-2011). 

Subsequent to her education, Dr. Szalasny received board certification in internal medicine and rheumatology from the American Board of Internal Medicine. The American Board of Internal Medicine is a 501 nonprofit, self-appointed physician-evaluation organization that certifies physicians practicing internal medicine and its subspecialties.

Rheumatology is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases. Physicians who have undergone formal training in rheumatology are called rheumatologists. Rheumatologists deal mainly with immune-mediated disorders of the musculoskeletal system, soft tissues, autoimmune diseases, vasculitides, and inherited connective tissue disorders. Many of these diseases are now known to be disorders of the immune system. Rheumatology is considered to be the study and practice of medical immunology.

On a more personal note, Dr. Szalasny speaks English, Ukrainian, and Russian. She is licensed to practice in the state of Texas.
