Relating to her academic journey, Dr. Spannhake holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and a Master of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Maryland, as well as a Master of Public Health degree from Tulane University.

Furthering her dental education, she graduated with multiple honors from the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry and completed a two-year orthodontic graduate program at the University of Maryland School of Dental Surgery. 

A recognition by her peers of clinical and didactic excellence in orthodontics, Dr. Spannhake is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Being advanced in the field, she has served as President of the State and Mid-Atlantic Regional Orthodontic Societies. She is also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the Maryland State Dental Association.

Actively involved in the orthodontic profession outside of her own practice, Dr. Spannhake is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the Temple University Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry in Philadelphia and teaches in their graduate program on a bi-weekly basis throughout the year.
