About

Avi Magidoff L.Ac. has been practicing acupuncture for some 25 years first in San Francisco, where he has established a number of community clinics including the one at St. Luke's hospital, and now in Portsmouth NH. He attributes the success of the unique Japanese style of acupuncture he utilizes to two factors: (a) the reliance on abdominal diagnosis and confirmation of results (b) persistent tracking of current problems to possible past injuries which still have a hold on the body, while clearing the past in order to be fully alive in the present moment. He is known for his no-nonsense and compassionate approach and understanding. His acupuncture style is unique and obtains quick and lasting results.

  • Can acupuncture help in treating joint pain?

Acupuncture has a good rate of success with joint pain. It is certainly worth trying, whether it is an arthritis (osteo or rheumatoid), a ligament/tendon disorder, gout, or some other condition. Ideally, you will see improvement on your first visit. "Improvement" meaning a reduction in pain, not necessarily pain-free after one treatment. Sometimes it takes 2-3 treatments to initiate a positive response, so you may have to be a little bit patient. If you get no results at all after 3 or 4 treatments, chances are this particular form of acupuncture might not do the trick for you. This does not mean that another acupuncturist, using a different approach, might not be successful, but most patients will not tend to seek another acupuncturist if the first try failed, which is a pity. That said, medicine (any medical modality) is a statistical, not an exact science, and no matter how many times we treat a certain condition with success, there is always a possibility of failure. Acupuncture does not have harmful side effects, so "failure" in this case means "no improvement," but there is no other risk. READ MORE
