Get to know Pulmonologist Dr. Glenn VanOtteren, who serves patients in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

A board-certified pulmonologist, Dr. VanOtteren is the Chief of the Division of Pulmonary/Critical Care, Sleep Medicine, Infectious Disease and Allergy/Immunology within Corewell Health. He specializes in the treatment of conditions such as asthma, cancer, COPD, lung cancer, lung nodules, obstructive sleep apnea, pleural effusions, pneumonia, and sarcoidosis.

Before embarking on his professional journey, he received his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1988, and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 1991. Finally, he completed his fellowship in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine at the University of Michigan Hospitals & Health Center in 1994.

As a testament of his continued education, the doctor is board-certified in pulmonary disease, critical care medicine, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Maintaining fellowship status, Dr. VanOtteren is a Fellow of both the College of Chest Physicians (FCCP), and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (FAASM).

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. A pulmonologist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions and diseases that affect the lungs, bronchial tubes, and the respiratory system, including the nose, pharynx, and throat.
