Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Piccolo attended Creighton University, where he earned both his undergraduate and doctorate degrees. After receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1982, he began working and has been practicing dentistry in Scottsdale since 1985.
In order to master his skills in TMJ therapy and periodontal prosthetics, he received training at the L.D. Pankey Institute. This prestigious postgraduate program strives to “treat patients at the highest level of current knowledge and care” to provide them with optimal oral health – a philosophy Dr. Piccolo has personally adopted.
In 2012, he started his residency in dental sleep medicine at UCLA. He then went on to continue a residency in implant surgery in 2014. He finished up his residencies in TMJ, oral facial pain, and dental sleep medicine at the University of Tennessee in Memphis in 2017.

Furthermore, he is a participating member of local study clubs, a peer review and mediator for the Arizona Dental Association, as well as holds fellowship status with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.
In his free time, Dr. Piccolo volunteers at the John. C. Lincoln Children’s Clinic. He also enjoys playing baseball and golf, as well as spending time water skiing and hiking with his two sons, Matthew and Chad.
