For his two fellowships in cardiovascular & thoracic surgery, he practiced at both Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

Jorge E. Suarez-Cavelier, MD, FACS, is a 1978-graduate of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana/Pontifical Xavierian University Faculty of Medicine in Bogotá, Colombia. His postgraduate training includes his first residency in general surgery served at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. Following his relocation to the United States, Dr. Suarez-Cavelier completed a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX (1986-1988), and, a second cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, OR (1988-1990). He then conducted a general surgery residency at Maimonides Medical Center (1990-1995), as well as a cardiovascular surgery residency at Carolinas HealthCare System in Charlotte, NC (1995-1998). He attained board certification in cardiothoracic surgery with the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
