Get to know Colorectal Surgeon Dr. Jaime R. Gomez, who serves patients in El Paso, Texas.

Dr. Gomez, a highly trained colorectal surgeon, specializes in the surgical and non-surgical care for structures of the lower digestive system, including the intestines, colon, and rectum. In practice for over three decades, he works at El Paso Colon & Rectal Clinic. 

Licensed to practice medicine in Texas, he is also affiliated with medical facilities such as Del Sol Medical Center, Las Palmas Medical Center, The Hospitals of Providence East Campus, and The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Gomez graduated with his medical degree from UT Health San Antonio School of Medicine in 1990. He then went on to perform his residency in general surgery at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and his residency in colon and rectal surgery with the Memorial Hermann Health System.

Established in his field, the doctor is board-certified in colon and rectal surgery by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ABCRS). The ABCRS is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties that issues certificates for practitioners of colorectal surgery. 

Furthermore, he is board-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

Having achieved fellowship status, Dr. Gomez is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (FASCRS). 

Colorectal surgery is a field in medicine dealing with disorders of the rectum, anus, and colon. The field is also known as proctology, but this term is now used infrequently within medicine and is most often employed to identify practices relating to the anus and rectum in particular. Colorectal surgeons specialize in the preoperative, operative, and postoperative care of patients with colorectal disorders. They have comprehensive knowledge about general surgery and in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the rectum, anus, and colon. 

An authority in his field, Dr. Gomez is the recipient of Patients’ Choice Award (2014, 2018) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2016, 2018).
